I'm just waitin' for a mate!

Setting the internet ablaze, this video features a police officer finding a man in a car that has mounted itself onto the curb. When questioned about what he's doing there, the man responds that he's 'waiting for a mate'. Clearly intoxicated, the man is then questioned and then arrested by the police officers.
The situation has been found comical to many third party viewers hence making this video one of the most viral videos of early 2013.

The video spawned in February 2013, when a video titled 'I'm just waitin for a mate' was uploaded to Youtube by John Potter, featuring footage from the Australian television show 'Highway Patrol'. The video has generated buzz across the social media network generating many memes and parodies. Facebook pages for the video were made entitled 'Waitin' for a mate' gaining up to 80,000 likes. Many remixes of the video have been, including a techno remix and also an electronic dance remix.

This viral video has created many jokes across the internet and is still generating buzz. The ongoing joke has arisen the question of why he was there in the first place, and whether or not his 'mate' actually exists.

Gangnam Style!

Unarguably, the MOST viral video of all time. You could go to any part of the world, say the name of the song and someone will recognize it. The Gangnam Style took the Internet by a storm and has reach 1.5 billion views and still counting. What is crazy about this video is that, most people who watch it don't understand as the whole song is in Korean. The reason I believe it became viral was the weird intricacies to laugh about, the catchy music, the suit and the dance moves. All very simple yet very memorable, all making you want to go back and watch it one, maybe two more times. Through this song PSY has sold out concerts, toured internationally at festivals and has become the biggest household name ever. He has become a social icon and even nominated for person of the year. There will probably never be another viral video which will have more views than Gangnam Style.

Woman on subway asks Jay Z, Are you famous

Jay-Z is arguably one of the biggest names in Hip Hop, the second most richest man in hip hop, husband of Beyonce and much more. During a concert in Brooklyn, Jay Z decided to take the subway, going through the stations he went to when he was a child. He signed autographs, took pictures and when he got in the train everyone went crazy, almost everyone. He sat next to an elderly woman who did not know he was, asking him "Are you famous?", and then continuing to ask his name and eventually remembering who he was. This video became very viral for its "feel-good-ness", showing the humbleness of Jay Z, showing he is just another guy and has time for his fans even if they couldn't recognize him.

The “Harlem Shake” is a viral dance craze on YouTube. Usually goes for about 30 to 40 seconds, where it starts off with only one person dancing with a full head mask (usually a bikies helmet or a horse head) and everyone else around him not noticing. Blog Design

This is our final design for the blog “ViraLeak” we are creating on the topic of viral videos on YouTube, created by Kurt, Zain and Lucinda.

For our blog design, the aim was to create something unique yet very user friendly. The font is very basic and nothing too fancy along with darker colours accompanied by a lighter background so that users can clearly read our posts without strain. Our background is a collage of small pictures which creates the impression of many videos on the internet and as our blog is about viral videos, it represents it well. At first we planned to create a background of a few large pictures of some viral videos but we decided that, it may distract the viewers and may not be as appealing.

The background behind the posts we make remains white so that the font doesn’t clash with the background. This way there is still an appealing background, but not at the expense of reading our posts.
