The Harlem Shake

The “Harlem Shake” is a viral dance craze on YouTube. Usually goes for about 30 to 40 seconds, where it starts off with only one person dancing with a full head mask (usually a bikies helmet or a horse head) and everyone else around him not noticing. Until about half way of the video it all changes as everyone in the room starts to dance and shake usually with masks and costumes.Z

The first Harlem Shake video was posted on the 2nd of February 2013 by 5 teenagers from Queensland, Australia known as ‘The Sunny Coast Skate’. Their video created a trend craze of others uploading their own “Harlem Shake” videos onto YouTube. The move consists of two simple steps; 1. To get loose and , 2. Then shake the upper body using more from the waist.
The unknown history of the actual move originated in Lexington where gang members would shoot cripples with crutches, them falling created this signature move which was then introduced by the gang members at local parties.
